We finally did it!!! We have music!

Ever since we got back from our trip to the island, we have been trying to incorporate more music in our lives. We are so uncultured in that whole area! I love how in many places in the world, everyone has some music in their lives – and I dont mean a really good ipod. Im talking musical instruments – drums, guitars, flutes, shakers – you know. Its so exhilarating to make music, and sadly, we miss out so much when we  resort to recorded music only.

OK, so I have been harping about finding folks to play the recorder with for a long time. I have looked and looked and the fact is, no on wants to play the recorder. I guess its seen as an instrument for kids. I thought it would be so perfect, because I thought everyone learns a little in school – but thats also where the stigma starts, and folks just aint willing to pick it with me. SO! I have simply decided, I will have to teach my friends and family to play with me. Yup, if you fall in that category you have been warned.

I got recorders of all sizes. I have two books of baroque recorder pieces for ensembles. I have even penciled in the notes for those uncomfortable with reading music. AND I have successfully taught the top line of a little piece to four people this weekend. (can you tell I am thrilled?) Oh the fun! Its all so exciting. We are still looking for a tenor though, as I dont want to shell out $100.00 for a plastic one… I am sure we can swing one soon. Marcel is so excited with his shrill sopranino.

FYI we are working on the “suite of Bransles de Champagne by Claude Gervaise, 16th century” in case you were inclined to learn it so you can play along. Now instead of just watching the “Tudors” we can play our own ball room dances for the king. Now where did I put my lute?
